Highlights
Bobby Lashley’s best days in WWE are behind him due to age and injuries.
A move to AEW may not work out, as Lashley’s style and size don’t fit the fast-paced, risky nature of the promotion.
AEW’s history of poorly booking big men suggests Lashley may struggle to find success if he joins the promotion.
Bobby Lashley had two runs in WWE, but his second was much better than the first. Lashley became a two-time WWE Champion, much to the delight of fans, who were happy to see such an underrated superstar finally get the attention he deserved. He might be 48, but Bobby Lashley is as fit as ever, and the crowds still cheered for him, even when WWE tried to turn him heel with the Street Profits. Now, sadly, Bobby Lashley’s WWE days are ending, as a Fightful Select report states that the Almighty’s contract comes to an end this weekend.
So what’s next for Bobby Lashley? The same Fightful Select report also said that it’s expected Lashley will make an appearance in AEW. Whether that will be a short-term deal or a full-time signing remains to be seen, but Bobby Lashley should think twice about going to AEW. Recent history has shown that it won’t work out.

4 Bobby Lashley’s Best Days Are Behind Him
The Hurt Business Wouldn’t Succeed In AEW
Bobby Lashley is almost 50-years-old. The Street Profits and Bobby Lashley faction didn’t succeed. The success of the Hurt Business in WWE doesn’t transfer to AEW.
Bobby Lashley might still be an impressive mountain of muscle, but although he might not look like it, the Almighty is pushing 50. His best days are behind him, which has to be the reason why WWE is uninterested in retaining him. That is shown by the injuries that have recently kept Lashley out of competition. His faction with the Street Profits ultimately didn’t go anywhere, partially because Bobby wasn’t around.
An argument around that could be to reform the Hurt Business in AEW with MVP and Shelton Benjamin, but that is more a fantasy than something that would really work. MVP doesn’t really wrestle anymore, and Shelton Benjamin is nearly 50 too. Sure, they’d get a nice pop and some headlines those first few weeks back together, but then what? They’re not going to be a trios team. Do Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin get reduced to a tag team?
3 AEW Is Not On The Same Level As WWE
Bobby Lashley Looks Like A Huge Star In Front Of Large Crowds
Bobby Lashley had gotten better on the mic in WWE. WWE’s theatrics hid Bobby Lashley’s flaws. AEW’s smaller crowds and darker atmosphere would expose Bobby Lashley.
One thing that has held Bobby Lashley back over the years is his ability on the mic. His promos weren’t great during his first WWE run, but had gotten better enough during his second run that, while he was never the face of a brand, he could still be given short-term championship reigns. That weakness could be hidden under the bright lights of WWE, where the large crowds and the glitz and glamor make any superstar’s shortcomings less noticeable.
That wouldn’t be the case in AEW. AEW is struggling with ratings and attendance. Watch AEW on TV, and you’ll often see a dark arena with the lights turned down to hide the empty seats. To make a much smaller crowd feel loud on TV, you either need to be a promo master like MJF, or put on some insane matches like Will Ospreay. Lashley would look diminished in a half full arena with the lights turned off. The theatrics gone, Lashley’s flaws become more exposed.

2 Bobby Lashley’s Wrestling Style Doesn’t Fit AEW
AEW Is All About A Faster Style Of Wrestling
AEW has more high spots and stunts than WWE. Chairs, ladders, tables, and blood are often seen in AEW. Bobby Lashey shouldn’t be taking those type of risks.
When AEW was formed in 2019, it was to be an alternative to WWE. It succeeded in many ways, but mainly through its wrestling style. Whereas WWE was slower in nature, with a lot of downtime, AEW moved very fast, with a lot of high spots and risky big stunts. You can’t watch Dynamite, Collision, or Rampage every week without seeing a spot where someone for a moment appears seriously injured. Chairs, ladders, table spots, and blood are all common sights in AEW.
This is not Bobby Lashley, especially at this stage of his career. He can still move and has taken many big risks during matches, but with his age and injury history, no one wants to see the Almighty launching off ladders and being put through tables. Look how that worked out for Adam Copeland.
1 AEW Has A History Of Badly Booking Big Men
Tony Khan Quickly Gives Up On Wrestlers
Tony Khan likes to book smaller and faster wrestlers who take big risks. Swerve Strickland, Will Opsreay, and Darby Allin are the stars of AEW. Wardlow could have been an AEW World Champion but now isn’t even on TV.
Tony Khan has a particular type of wrestler he likes most. Smaller guys who do flips and fly out of the ring are the stars of AEW, as shown with the likes of AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, and so many others. There are big men in AEW, but they don’t get pushed to the top. Keith Lee may have had a lot of injuries, but even when he was healthy he was stuck in a tag team with Swerve and was never given a big feud with his partner when he was turned on. Just look at Wardlow or the former Luchasaurus, Killshot. Both men, especially the former, could be huge stars, but Khan shows little interest in either. Wardlow went from being a potential future champion to seldom being on TV.
Who knows what Bobby Lashley will do next? He has lots of options, including going back to MMA, or a smaller wrestling promotion. Money will probably land him in AEW, but don’t expect much when the Almighty shows up on Dynamite on a future Wednesday. History tells us you’ll be disappointed.
