Having constructed up a cushty margin over his rivals within the early phases of the British Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri was handed a ten-second penalty which ultimately noticed him lose out to his team-mate Lando Norris.
Following a chaotic begin to the British Grand Prix, rain began to fall fairly closely on Lap 12. The more and more tough circumstances compelled the race course to deploy the Security Automotive was deployed which neutralised what had been a major lead for McLaren driver Oscar Piastri.
Because the depth of rain began to lower, the protection automotive peeled into the pits on Lap 21. Though he mastered the tough circumstances brilliantly, Piastri jumped on the brakes down Hangar Straight simply because the lights went out on the protection automotive, signalling a restart for the subsequent lap.
Piastri’s sudden braking compelled second-placed Max Verstappen to take evasive motion and the Dutchman momentarily handed the Australian on the right-hand aspect of the monitor. The stewards launched an investigation and dominated his actions as “erratic” and handed him a 10-second time penalty, plus two penalty factors on his superlicence.
Explaining the incident and its penalties, the stewards acknowledged: “The Stewards reviewed positioning/marshalling system knowledge, video, telemetry, group radio and in-car video proof.
“When the clerk of the course had declared that the protection automotive was coming in that lap and the lights had been extinguished, Automotive 81 instantly braked arduous (59.2 psi of brake stress) and diminished velocity in the course of the straight between T14 and T15, from 218 kph to 52 kph, leading to Automotive 1 having to take evasive motion to keep away from a collision.
“This momentarily resulted in Automotive 1 unavoidably overtaking Automotive 81, a place which he gave again instantly.
“Article 55.15 of the FIA Sporting Laws required Automotive 81 to proceed at a tempo which concerned no erratic braking nor every other manoeuvre which is prone to endanger different drivers from the purpose at which the lights on the protection automotive are turned off.
“What Automotive 81 did was clearly a breach of that article. In accordance with the penalty tips, we imposed a ten second time penalty to Automotive 81.”
