EuroHockey is enormously saddened to be taught of the passing of Jons Hensel on Friday on the age of 75.
Jons will all the time be recognized in each EuroHockey and EHL circles as one of many visionary founding fathers of the Euro Hockey League of which he was the chairman till 2015.
He was subsequently bestowed with a EuroHockey President’s Award (pictured with Marijke Fleuren at its presentation) and present EHL chairman Peter Elders paid tribute to his impression.
“Past his formal position with the EHL, he was all the time extraordinarily within the well-being of the event, its members, its sponsors and all the numerous volunteers concerned. His enthusiastic and welcoming smile and his many nice concepts will likely be enormously missed.
“Jons will stay within the hearts of each individual now or ever concerned with the EHL and all of us really feel deep sympathy for his spouse Els who we now have met at so many events.
“We hope Els will discover someplace the energy to proceed and that she is going to – like us – keep in mind the nice recollections of this true gentleman, host and good friend.”
Outdoors his EuroHockey engagements, Jons was a key instigator for each his membership AH&BC Amsterdam and for the Hoofdklasse within the Netherlands.
For Amsterdam, he served as an influential chairman of the membership for 10 years, was a key participant within the renovation of the Wagener Stadium and a member of the Govt Board of the Amsterdam Sports activities Establishments.
In 2009, Jons Hensel was appointed Member of Advantage by the KNHB in recognition of his vital contribution to the game of hockey within the Netherlands and overseas.
For his social and sporting achievements, he was appointed Knight within the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2010.
