LORMAN, Miss. — Alcorn State on Friday introduced it has employed former longtime NBA guard Monta Ellis as basic supervisor of the lads’s basketball program.
Ellis is a local of Jackson, Mississippi, and Alcorn State’s fundamental campus is in Lorman, Mississippi. Ellis was drafted by Golden State in 2005 out of Lanier Excessive Faculty in Jackson, the place he gained two state championships. Alcorn State described Ellis as “One proud Mississippi son” in its announcement.
“Monta Ellis brings a championship pedigree and a wealth of basketball data to our program, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the Alcorn State household,” athletic director E. D’Wayne Robinson stated in an announcement.
“His expertise on the highest stage of the sport, mixed together with his ardour for creating younger expertise, makes him the right addition to our basketball management.”
Alcorn State completed 9-23 general and 7-11 within the Southwestern Athletic Convention beneath first-year head coach Jake Morton final season.
Ellis averaged 17.8 factors in his 12-year NBA profession with Golden State, Milwaukee, Dallas and Indiana. He was voted the league’s most improved participant after averaging 16.5 factors within the 2006-07 season with the Warriors. He accomplished his profession with Indiana within the 2016-17 season.
Ellis, 40, now begins a brand new profession in school sports activities.
