Former South Carolina quarterback Chris Smelley, who additionally performed catcher for the College of Alabama, was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday after he went lacking in Gulf of Mexico for almost 12 hours.
Smelley went out to sea in a kayak on a fishing journey off of Grayton Seaside and was final seen at 8:30 a.m. He was later reported lacking by the Walton County Sheriff’s Workplace, which prompted the Coast Guard to spring into motion. They have been helped by the Florida Fish and Wildlife company in addition to a number of native companies.
Footage shared by the Coast Guard on X, previously generally known as Twitter, confirmed the second Smelley was discovered by his rescuers, who promptly repelled into the uneven water at 7:12 p.m.
