A Legend of Zelda fan has been sentenced to 4 months in jail, after being present in possession of a small duplicate of the sequence’ Grasp Sword while out in public.
In June, Nuneaton resident Anthony Bray was arrested for “carrying a bladed article”. CCTV operators observed Bray with the Grasp Sword duplicate, which had a complete blade size of six inches (see photos beneath).
“The blade was inside a sheath and could possibly be launched from the sheath with the press of a button,” reads the police press launch.
When questioned, Bray stated the Grasp Sword duplicate was bought on-line as a fidget toy. Officers defined that regardless of this being the supposed objective, the blade “was in actual fact a sharply pointed merchandise which could possibly be used as a weapon and may put others in concern of it getting used in opposition to them”.
Bray maintained he wouldn’t have used the Legend of Zelda sword duplicate as an precise weapon. Bray did, nonetheless, acknowledge it may have been perceived as threatening.
“We take a zero tolerance to bladed articles in public, and Bray has fallen afoul of this,” stated Sgt Spellman of the Patrol Investigations Unit. “It’s potential to search out fidget toys that are not six-inch blades. It’s potential to not stroll down the road holding them out in entrance of you.
“With a bit extra self-awareness, Bray may have averted contact with us fully.”
Bray is now required to pay a victims’ surcharge of £154 along with serving the aforementioned jail sentence.
