Former UFC champion-turned-trainer, Matt Serra has hit out at opposition coach, Tim Welch for his nook work at Noche UFC final weekend, claiming his recommendation to trainee, Sean O’Malley was “sh*t” with the champion shedding his belt to Georgian star, Merab Dvalishvili.
Serra, a former undisputed welterweight champion below the banner of the UFC, has led each the above-mentioned Dvalishvili and former gold holder, Aljamain Sterling to title wins at 135lbs alongside veteran head coach, Ray Longo since his retirement from fight sports activities.
And over the course of the weekend, the veteran New Yorker watched on as pupil, Dvalishvili rode out a cushty unanimous judging win over undisputed champion, O’Malley to win the divisional crown.

And sharing his ideas on the nook work from the opposing crew led by ex-fighter, Welch — who acquired flak for encouraging O’Malley to get by means of the rest of the rounds regardless of shedding on the scorecards, Serra claims The Final Fighter alum’s potential as a coach bought “uncovered”.
“This battle uncovered him (Tim Welch) as a coach as a result of when your man is successful and knocking individuals out, positive, you seem like a f*cking superhero,” Matt Serra mentioned on the UFC Unfiltered podcast with Jim Norton. “When your fighter is clearly shedding the battle — and begins shedding rounds — Tim Welch was, like, not wanting to harm his (Sean O’Malley’s) emotions. ‘OK, good spherical,’ no, you’re shedding f*cking three rounds.”
“You bought to get in his a*s,” Matt Serra defined. “He was afraid that he didn’t know how you can deal with his man (with) that many rounds, and I assumed his f*cking nook work was sh*t. So he uncovered himself. Merab (Dvalishvili) took care of enterprise and Tim Welch had no solutions for his fighter.”
