Vital Occasions at Atlanta Motor Speedway:

1958 – The Atlanta Structure reported on April 8, 1958, that the First Georgia Securities Company, below the management of President Richard W. King, had unveiled plans to assemble a $1 million racing advanced referred to as Atlanta Worldwide Raceway.

•         1959 – A NASCAR-sanctioned race at Atlanta Worldwide Raceway, initially deliberate for November 22, 1959, was postponed attributable to building delays and rescheduled for March 27, 1960.

•         1983 – Atlanta Motor Speedway was used within the 1983 Hal Needham-directed movie Stroker Ace.

•         1986 – In January 1986, Mike Helton introduced $3 million in renovations forward of the 1986 The Winston occasion. These enhancements had been a part of efforts to reinforce the Atlanta Motor Speedway’s amenities.

•         1990 – Motorsports mogul Bruton Smith (Speedway Motorsports) bought the Atlanta Worldwide Raceway in 1990, renaming it to Atlanta Motor Speedway and main the ability’s growth and renovation below longtime normal supervisor Ed Clark.
