After Breakout Win, Cardenas Tells Malignaggi ‘I Wanted To Be Like You’

Ramon Cardenas grew to become a contender final evening.

His gorgeous sixth-round technical knockout of Israel Rodriguez Picazo was as dramatic because it was spectacular.

After a grueling back-and-forth bout on ProBox TV, Cardenas landed a shot that appeared to interrupt Picazo’s jaw. In between rounds, the physician was introduced into the ring and wouldn’t permit the combat to proceed.

Afterward, Cardenas embraced considered one of ProBox TV’s broadcasters, Paulie Malignaggi, whom he had some honest phrases for.

“I advised him, I needed to be like him [Paulie Malignaggi],” mentioned Cardenas, after his major occasion victory.

Malignaggi was the primary well-known boxer Cardenas had ever come throughout. New York’s former two-division world champion was a star of his period.

Cardenas continued: “I didn’t even know who you had been. I [had been] barely boxing six months, I had no clue. I advised myself I needed to be like him. Individuals had been lining as much as take footage with you.”

An overjoyed Cardenas simply bought an enormous win in the primary occasion and having the ability to inform Paulie he was considered one of his main inspirations within the sport was a bonus.

“I advised my dad I’m going to fulfill Paulie at some point and inform him that story,” Cardenas smiled.

Ramon Cardenas improved to 23-1, 12 KOs. He’s now a professional tremendous bantamweight world title contender.
