Alcaraz moves onto Barcelona Open semis with eighth straight win

BARCELONA, Spain — High-seeded Carlos Alcaraz earned his season-best eighth straight win after beating Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3 within the Barcelona Open quarterfinals on Friday.

Coming off his first Monte Carlo Masters title, Alcaraz’s subsequent impediment to a 3rd Barcelona title was Arthur Fils.

Fils reached his first semifinal of the yr when four-time Barcelona finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas retired after shedding the primary two video games.

The damage was unspecified however Fils suspected it was Tsisipas’ again.

Fils is at a career-high thirteenth rating and will crack the top-10 for the primary time if he wins the match.

Making the ultimate could be sufficient for Holger Rune, at eleventh, to return to the highest 10.

His probabilities improved after he knocked out defending champion Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-2.

Ruud did not assist himself with 29 unforced errors.

“I performed on my phrases and I used to be actually explosive, that is how I wish to play,” Rune stated.

Rune will face Karen Khachanov, who defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 7-5 from 5-2 down within the final set.
