Alexis Galarneau knocks out defending champion Valentin Vacherot


Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan made the doubles last within the Challenger tennis match in Pune on Friday.

Alexis Galarneau of Canada edged out the defending champion Valentin Vacherot of Monaco 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) within the quarterfinals of the Pune Metropolitan $160,000 Maha Open Challenger tennis match on the Balewadi Stadium on Friday.

Within the semifinals, Galarneau will play Brandon Holt of USA who knocked out the highest seed and finalist of the final match in Delhi, Billy Harris in three units.

The opposite semifinal will probably be between, Khumoyun Sultanov of Uzbekistan and Dalibor Svrcina of the Czech Republic.

The Indian curiosity was saved alive as prime seeds Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth made the doubles last, beating Niki Poonacha and Courtney Lock in straight units.

The Indian pair will play second seeds Blake Bayldon and Matthew Romios of Australia within the last on Saturday.

The outcomes:

Singles (quarterfinals): Brandon Holt (USA) bt Billy Harris (GBR) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; Alexis Galarneau (Can) bt Valentin Vacherot (Mon) 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3); Khumoyun Sultanov (Uzb) bt Ugo Blanchet (Fra) 6-0, 6-2; Dalibor Svrcina (Cze) bt Ilia Simakin 6-1, 6-3.

Doubles (semifinals): Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan & Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt Niki Poonacha & Courtney Lock (Zim) 7-6(5), 6-4; Blake Bayldon & Matthew Romios (Aus) bt Jay Clarke (GBR) & Jurij Rodionov (Aut) 6-3, 3-6, [10-5].
