The Canadian tennis star misplaced to Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, the sixth seed on the event, in straight units (6-3, 6-4) in Eastbourne, England on Saturday.
Fernandez had made a strong go at some {hardware}, taking down seventh-seed Barbora Krejcikova within the opening spherical and the world No. 12 Madison Keys within the semifinal, however Kasatkina, the world No. 14, was a bridge too far.
The 21-year-old will now head to Wimbledon for her opening-round match in opposition to Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti.
