Canada’s Leylah Fernandez loses to Rybakina in second round in Japan


TOKYO — Canada’s Leylah Fernandez misplaced her second-round girls’s match on the Toray Pan Pacific Open to second-seeded Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan on Thursday.

Rybakina superior to the quarterfinals to face Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, who saved a match level en path to beating Rybakina in a semifinal of the Nationwide Financial institution Open offered by Rogers in Montreal. 

The 19-year-old Mboko from Toronto went on to win that event as a wild-card entry.

Fernandez from Laval, Que., misplaced to the world No. 7 Rybakina in straight units 6-4, 6-3.

The Canadians fell 6-4, 7-6 (3), 10-8 within the hardcourt match
