Canada’s Rebbeca Marino is one win away from qualifying for the US Open.
The Toronto native pulled out a victory in her second qualifying match in opposition to Japan’s Mai Hontama (6-1, 2-6, 6-1) on Thursday, organising a Friday afternoon contest in opposition to Czechia’s Domnika Salkova on Friday with an opportunity for a spot within the US Open draw come Saturday.
A participant requires three qualifying wins in an effort to get a spot in the primary draw. Marino opened her qualifier run with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win over Thailand’s Lanlana Tararudee on Monday.
In the meantime, Marino was probably the most profitable of the three Canadian ladies competing on the day, as Chinese language-Canadian Carol Zhao and Oakville, Ont. native Cadence Brace each misplaced their second qualifying matches in straight units.
Zhao misplaced to Italy’s Lucrezia Stefanini (6-1, 6-4), whereas Brace fell to Slovenia’s Veronika Erjavec (6-4, 6-4), rendering each ineligible to qualify for the ultimate Grand Slam of the season.
Whereas US Open aspirations must look ahead to the pair of Canadians, Marino now finds herself only one victory away from her sixth principal draw on the occasion in her profession.
