Charles Leclerc remembers the trait he always admired about Jules Bianchi

Charles Leclerc says he at all times admired the “by no means surrender” angle of his pal Jules Bianchi, as he paid tribute to the Frenchman 10 years after his loss of life.

The 2 drivers turned shut pals rising up, with the present Ferrari star relating to Bianchi – eight years his senior – as a “mentor”. Their bond prolonged past racing, with their households remaining near at the present time.

Leclerc holds many reminiscences of his time with Bianchi, who was born simply 20km from Monaco in Good, France.

However what stood out most to the Monegasque was Bianchi’s relentless aggressive spirit, as he recalled how his late pal would dedicate himself day by day to enhancing his weaknesses.

“He was very obsessive in a means that each time he wasn’t ok at one thing, you’d see him one month, two months or three months later and he could have educated at each single alternative he had,” Leclerc wrote in a column for F1’s official web site.

“I bear in mind enjoying him at squash, for instance. The primary few instances, he was already a lot better than me however then I bear in mind like 5 – 6 months later, he had organised a match with one of many prime 20 on the earth.

“He was truly doing very well and that was very, very spectacular as a result of he had simply educated each single day to get higher at squash. It is a trait that I’ve at all times admired from Jules.

“He would by no means, ever surrender and he would work so arduous to be able to get higher at one thing. Something he would do, he would give absolutely the most.”

Bianchi misplaced his life on 17 July 2015, 9 months after he struck a restoration car throughout a rain-hit Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

He was the primary Components 1 driver to die from accidents sustained in a grand prix since Ayrton Senna’s deadly crash at Imola in 1994.

Leclerc hopes Bianchi, a former Ferrari Driver Academy member, will probably be remembered not just for his kindness but in addition for the uncooked tempo he confirmed within the junior ranks – and the promise he demonstrated throughout his time with the backmarker Marussia group.

“I hope Jules will probably be remembered as an especially gifted driver, who sadly by no means had the prospect to be in a prime group with a automobile that was serving to him to point out the extent of his expertise,” mentioned Leclerc.

“There are some folks the place you’ll be able to see by way of their eyes, by way of their smile, how good of an individual they’re – and I feel Jules is one in all them.

“That is most likely an important factor for me to recollect from Jules – how sort of a human being he was and the way devoted he was to try to attain his objectives.”
