PITTSBURGH — There aren’t many gamers to have donned a Pittsburgh Pirates uniform whose on-the-field accomplishments can match that of the illustrious Roberto Clemente.
Within the fifth inning of Wednesday afternoon’s 5-2 win towards Miami at PNC Park, McCutchen drove a Cal Quantrill pitch 405 toes over the wall in left-center area, giving him his 241st dwelling run as a Pirate, passing Clemente for sole possession of third place all-time on the group’s dwelling run listing. The blast, McCutchen’s sixth of the season, got here lower than two weeks after McCutchen tied Clemente on the listing.
Forward of McCutchen in all-time dwelling runs as a Pirate are Ralph Kiner (301) and Willie Stargell (475).
In 2015, McCutchen was given the Roberto Clemente Award, given yearly “to the participant who greatest represents the sport of Baseball via extraordinary character, group involvement, philanthropy and constructive contributions, each on and off the sphere.” McCutchen grew to become the second Pirate to earn the dignity (Stargell, 1974).
McCutchen performed the primary 9 seasons of his profession with Pittsburgh, together with a 2013 marketing campaign by which he was the Nationwide League’s Most Priceless Participant, and after stints with the Giants, Yankees, Phillies and Brewers, he returned to the Metal Metropolis forward of the 2023 season.
