FIA boss continues push for V8 comeback in F1

Jul.8 (GMM) Mohammed Ben Sulayem has ramped up his pitch to be re-elected as president of Formulation 1’s governing physique.

Over the British GP weekend, which was attended by the controversial FIA incumbent, a rival bid for the presidency was launched by sacked former F1 steward Tim Mayer.

Mayer, the son of legendary former McLaren staff boss Teddy Mayer, will go head-to-head with Ben Sulayem within the elections slated for mid December in Uzbekistan.

He launched the marketing campaign with a blistering assault on Ben Sulayem.

“The president got here to energy 4 years in the past with good concepts,” Mayer mentioned, “however ultimately, all we noticed was a centralisation of energy.

“I’m disillusioned in Mohammed,” he added. “His management qualities aren’t good.”

When requested for his response, Ben Sulayem commented: “I really feel sorry for individuals who say that and who haven’t any additional relationship with the FIA.

“I’d say, put it to the check and see if there may be any reality in it. Ask individuals who at the moment work for the FIA, they’ve the proper to talk.

“Tim Mayer labored as a steward, however that doesn’t make him an FIA insider or an FIA employees member. In any case, I don’t really feel the necessity to defend myself or to marketing campaign on this means. I’ve different issues to do,” he’s quoted as saying by the Dutch publication Formule 1.

“He can say no matter he needs. As we are saying within the Arab world – the tongue has no bones.”

Nonetheless, the sensation within the F1 paddock – particularly amongst higher staff administration and the drivers – is that the FIA could possibly be lengthy overdue for a brand new period.

Ben Sulayem, although, would possibly not less than win some help together with his ongoing push to carry loud, mild, easy, cheap and crowd-pleasing V8 energy again to the grid – with “totally sustainable gasoline”.

“The groups are behind it,” the 63-year-old mentioned. “Hopefully we could have one thing by 2029.

“That is the proper course that’s wanted to maintain the game going and reasonably priced, even if there are nonetheless individuals who assume that there’s limitless cash to be made in Formulation 1.”
