Fired College Football Coach Files Defamation Lawsuit Against ESPN

NBA Followers Need Doris Burke Fired (1:31)

Again in March the school soccer world obtained a short shock when Stanford head coach Troy Taylor was all of a sudden fired following an investigation into alleged bullying inside the program. Now, Taylor is trying to get some payback (actually, if he will help it).

On Thursday, Taylor introduced that he will likely be submitting a defamation lawsuit in opposition to ESPN for the community’s position in his March dismissal.

The lawsuit accuses ESPN of pushing a harmful narrative by means of false claims in service to destroying his profession. The March 2025 article in query cited investigations from 2023 and 2024 within the wake of complaints that Taylor bullied feminine workers members.

Again in April, Taylor launched a press release denying the allegations in opposition to him and mentioning that Stanford even admitted that they’d fired him with out trigger. Whereas he did not explicitly vow revenge in opposition to ESPN on the time, he did name the community out in his assertion.

“The media’s current portrayal of me is unfair, unsuitable, and opposite to my skilled monitor document and the particular person I’m and have at all times been,” Taylor stated in April.

Soccer followers have been largely dismissive of the story on the time and did not present a lot help to the Cardinals coach since Taylor wasn’t precisely tremendous profitable at Stanford. He went simply 6-18 in two seasons on the helm.

“This man is a joke. Return to Sacramento the place nobody cares,” one consumer remarked on social media.

“Him leaving Sac State for Stanford understanding how arduous it’s to recruit for that faculty destroyed his fame. Perhaps Sac can be FBS proper now if he stayed on for 2-3 extra years,” one other stated.

“Appears like he could not usher in key help workers members he wished, which might make one harbor resentment to an individual you did not choose to your workers. May need been some friction due to it which led to the Investigations on therapy,” a 3rd mused.

If something, the group appears somewhat extra excited now with former NFL head coach Frank Reich on the helm, being supported by legendary Stanford alum Andrew Luck.

However that does not make Taylor’s grievance any much less critical.

That stated, it seems like ESPN is primed to defend its March reporting. They declined to touch upon the scenario when requested by The Athletic.
