Fried bounces back from lone '25 loss with 7-K gem in Yanks' win

NEW YORK – It was a couple of minutes after the clubhouse doorways swung open this previous weekend at Dodger Stadium, and Max Fried was pacing the carpet, stewing beneath his hooded sweatshirt. A sixth-inning lead had evaporated, and for the primary time, the Yankees had been analyzing how their new left-hander behaved after being tagged with a loss.

The end result didn’t sit properly with Fried, spitting that he would “use this as motivation to exit subsequent time and ensure it doesn’t occur once more.” None of this was the Guardians’ fault, however they paid the worth as Fried hurled six sharp innings of one-hit ball, main the Yanks to a 4-0 victory on Thursday at Yankee Stadium.

Cody Bellinger had a giant fourth inning, making a leaping catch close to the right-field wall that robbed David Fry of additional bases, then belting a two-run homer off a Slade Cecconi four-seamer. That’s what Fried wanted, and he has been value each nickel of his eight-year, $218 million contract so far.

Yankees supervisor Aaron Boone describes Fried’s gameday depth as “off the charts,” and he’s persevering with to embrace his function as New York’s stopper. Thursday marked the seventh time Fried has taken the ball following a Bombers loss; the membership is 7-0 in these video games, a report that bears the ace’s fingerprints.

“He was the No. 1 man on our board to go after,” Boone stated, “and he is lived as much as all of that.”

Fried rebounded from a 28-pitch first inning that contained the one hit he’d enable, José Ramírez’s super-soft single (38.8 mph exit velocity) to the left facet of the infield. Retiring 11 straight by means of one stretch, Fried’s 1.78 ERA is the bottom by a Yankee in his first 13 begins of a season since Phil Niekro in 1984 (1.73).

Cleveland threatened in opposition to Mark Leiter Jr. within the seventh, loading the bases on two singles and an Anthony Volpe error. Tim Hill escaped the mess, hanging out Bo Naylor and getting Jhonkensy Noel to fly out. Bellinger and Jazz Chisholm, Jr. padded the benefit with run-scoring singles off Kolby Allard within the dwelling half.
