Ski areas within the Alps have reported as much as a metre (over three toes) of snowfall on increased slopes within the final 24 hours.
The brand new snowfall come after temperatures dropped on Thursday night, typically getting down as little as -20C over the weekend.
With some resorts reporting as much as 60cm (two toes) on the finish of final week too, it means 5 day whole accumulations of as much as 1.5 metres (5 toes) have now been recorded at some excessive altitiude areas.
The sub-zero temps have additionally been reported all the way down to the valley ground, with some low-lying resorts reporting as much as 75cm of snowfall all the way down to 1,000m altitudes.
The most important snowfalls have been reported within the Western Alps, significantly on increased slopes in France and Switzerland. Crans Montana has reported a metre of snowfall within the final 24 hours and 1.5m (5 toes) prior to now three days; Courchevel and Val Thorens round 1.2m (4 toes) prior to now 72 hours. Most ski areas have had at the very least half-a-metre (two toes) if snowfall within the final 24 hours.
All of the snowfall has closed many ski areas, or massive components of them, as slopes are made protected and lifts dug out. The avalanche hazard can be excessive in most areas.
