International call-up for South of Ireland champion Jonathan Keane



Lahinch’s Jonathan Keane accomplished a dream 24 hours following his historic victory within the South of Eire Championship by being named within the Irish males’s group for subsequent month’s Dwelling Internationals at Woodhall Spa.

The Kilfenora college trainer (25) beat Dundalk’s Caolan Rafferty one up in Sunday’s closing, sparking joyous scenes as he grew to become the primary native member to win the South since his mentor JD Smyth in 1968.



He discovered of his part for Eire on Monday evening and can play at Woodhall Spa from 6-8 August alongside Stuart Grehan (County Louth) and one other new cap in David Howard (Fota Island), as they completed first and second within the Bridgestone Order of Advantage to earn automated choice.

Newbie Championship finalist, Gavin Tiernan (Co Louth), John Doyle (Fota Island), Thomas Higgins (Roscommon), Colm Campbell (Warrenpoint) and Sean Keeling (Roganstown) full the 9 man line up alongside Keith Egan (Carton Home).

Rafferty was unavailable for choice, whereas Walker Cup participant Matt McClean is enjoying the clashing US Newbie Championship.

Eire will likely be defending the collectively calculated Males’s and Girls’s title.

One other Lahinch golfer, Aideen Walsh, was the main qualifier for the Girls’s group alongside Olivia Costello (Roscommon), Rebekah Gardner (Clandeboye), Anna Abom (Edmondstown), Beth Coulter (Kirkistown Fortress), Emma Fleming (Elma Park) and Anna Dawson (Tramore).

The R&A Boys’ and Ladies’ Dwelling Internationals happen at Cork subsequent week with a powerful Ladies’ choice hoping to again up their current third-place end on the European Ladies’ Group Championship.
