John Sterling in good spirits as he recovers from heart attack

Legendary Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling stated he’s recovering effectively after struggling a coronary heart assault in early January.

The 87-year-old Sterling, who retired in April 2024 after a 64-year broadcasting profession, advised WFAN on Sunday that his coronary heart is in good condition, though his legs have been affected.

“I’m form of ready for the power to go away my legs and I can get again on the market,” Sterling stated. “I’m very lucky, and all issues are good.”

Sterling, who introduced his retirement after offering play-by-play commentary for five,631 regular-season and postseason Yankees video games, stated his love for sports activities — not simply baseball — continues to be evident. Laid up in mattress throughout his restoration, Sterling hung out watching basketball and the Winter Olympics (and now, he can absorb Spring Coaching video games, too).

“I’ve at all times [felt] blessed [by] the actual fact, since I’ve been a little bit boy, that I’m a sports activities fan,” Sterling stated.

The broadcasting legend, recognized for his iconic victory and residential run calls, stated he’s in good arms as he recovers. He credited his 4 kids — his daughter Abigail and triplets Bradford, Derek and Veronica — for “taking up all phases of my life.”

“I couldn’t have accomplished something with out them,” he stated. “They’ve been sensational in taking good care of me.”
