More September Snow in the Alps


After a protracted sizzling summer time it has been per week of a lot colder, snowier climate within the Alps.

There have been dustings of snow on excessive slopes within the Western Alps per week in the past, however the previous few days has seen the snowfall masking a far wider space and reaching low elevations. Accumulations up at 3,000m have now topped 30cm (a foot) at some areas.  Germany’s Zugspitze glacier is pictured yesterday.

The snowfall has been reported as far east as Slovenia and the Julian Alps at Kranjska Gora s properly as within the Western Alps at resorts together with Avoriaz, pictured high this morning.  The snow has additionally fallen right down to low ranges at resorts together with Kitzbühel and Lech in Austria, the latter posted this picture this morning.

Presently three glacier ski areas are open within the Alps – Saas Payment, Zermatt and Passo Stelvio with Hintertux presently having paused operations in the summertime warmth, however maybe now in a position to reopen quickly. The Pitztal and Solden glacier ski areas are scheduled to open in a fortnight’s time.
