NEW YORK — Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen withdrew from the US Open on Monday, two days after asserting she had arthroscopic surgical procedure on her proper elbow due to “persistent ache.”
The sixth-ranked Zheng was coming off a first-round loss at Wimbledon final month.

“Over the previous months, I have been coping with persistent ache in my proper elbow throughout coaching and matches,” the right-handed 22-year-old from China stated on social media Saturday. “Regardless of attempting varied therapies to handle it, the discomfort by no means absolutely went away.”
Zheng stated she anticipated her restoration would take months, so the exit from the 12 months’s final Grand Slam match was not a shock. The US Open begins Aug. 24.
She was changed within the discipline by France’s Leolia Jeanjean.
