DALLAS — Reilly Opelka faces potential self-discipline for his postmatch feedback a few chair umpire he known as the “worst ump on tour,” the ATP stated in a press release Friday.
Opelka was angered that he obtained some extent penalty whereas serving for the match within the third set in opposition to Cameron Norrie on the Dallas Open on Thursday evening. Opelka went on to win 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
The 27-year-old American was penalized for utilizing profanity whereas berating a member of the group. Opelka stated the unidentified fan was repeatedly and deliberately disrupting his serve.
“Audible obscenities directed at members of the general public represent a transparent violation of ATP guidelines,” the tour stated in its assertion. “In such situations, the chair umpire has a duty to take acceptable motion, whatever the match rating. The ATP will evaluation Mr. Opelka’s post-match feedback as a part of its commonplace disciplinary course of.”
After the match, Opelka stated umpire Greg Allensworth did not cease the fan from disrupting play.
“Worst ump on tour,” Opelka stated. “He is actual unhealthy. Nearly modified the end result of that match simply because he would not actually know what he is doing. And he bought emotional after we have been arguing. … He did not inform [the fan] to close up? He was doing it for, like, three factors. He did not do his job, so I needed to inform him, ‘Get out of right here.'”
