Penny Oleksiak, Olympic Champion, Accepts Two-12 months Ban for Whereabouts Violation
Olympic champion Penny Oleksiak has accepted a two-year eligibility ban.
Essentially the most adorned Canadian Olympian within the pool withdrew from the 2025 World Championships due to an ongoing case about her failure to disclose her whereabouts for testing, the Worldwide Testing Company (ITA) introduced on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
The Worldwide Testing Company confirmed the violation, stating that Oleksiak had dedicated three whereabouts violations between October 2025 and June 2025.
The World Anti-Doping Code defines a Whereabouts failure as any mixture of three missed exams or submitting failures in a 12-month interval.
Now the choice has been made official and Oleksiak has agreed to the two-year suspension that retroactively dates again to July 15.
“I need to emphasize that this Whereabouts case doesn’t contain any banned substance; it’s about whether or not I up to date my data appropriately,” Oleksiak wrote when she withdrew from worlds. “I’m and all the time have been a clear athlete and will probably be making no additional remark right now.”
Oleksiak, 25, has seven Olympic medals, most in Canadian historical past. Her 2016 gold medal within the 100 freestyle was her massive second at age 16 (tying with Simone Manuel).
Her final competitors was the 2025 Canadian Trials, which ended June 12. She certified within the 50 free (24.70) and 100 free (54.03) for the world championship roster. Then when the whereabouts case started, she withdrew from worlds.
She will probably be eligible once more on June 14, 2027.
