Jorge Fontes is a multigenerational Azorean scientist and has developed a non-invasive approach to deploy multi-sensor tags on blue shark inhabitants in The Azores. Jorge has partnered with Fred Buyle, a freediver who was the primary to efficiently “lasso” a shark with this methodology. The long-term aim is to create dynamic (shifting) marine protected areas to guard this “most fished” species of shark.
