Three-time major winner Stan Wawrinka says 2026 will be his last year on tour


Stan Wawrinka will probably be hanging up his tennis footwear quickly.

The three-time main winner says that 2026 will probably be his final 12 months on tour.

Since Wawrinka turned professional in 2002, the Swiss has gained 16 tour singles titles. He beat the No. 1-ranked participant within the finals of the 2014 Australian Open (Rafael Nadal), 2015 French Open (Novak Djokovic) and 2016 U.S. Open (Djokovic).

“One final push,” Wawrinka wrote on social media on Friday.

“Each guide wants an ending. It is time to write the ultimate chapter of my profession as knowledgeable tennis participant. 2026 will probably be my final 12 months on tour.”

Wawrinka and Roger Federer gained the 2008 Beijing Olympics doubles gold medal and helped Switzerland win its solely Davis Cup in 2014.

He’s one in every of solely three gamers to beat Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and Andy Murray on the Grand Slams.

The 40-year-old claimed his final singles trophy in 2017. He begins his last season in Perth on the United Cup from Jan. 2.
