UCI Gravel World Series – Tim Wollenberg and Debora Piana sprint to victory at Giro Sardegna Gravel

Tim Wollenberg (Protecting Manufacturing facility Staff) and Debora Piana (Fol MTB Racing Staff) bested their respective rival in a two-up dash to assert victory on the Giro Sardegna Gravel race, the ninth occasion of the UCI Gravel World Collection. 

The primary of two Italian occasions of the UCI Gravel World Collection came about on the opening stage of the lengthy week of racing on the Mediterranean Island.

Within the males’s race, Wollenberg outsprinted Lukas Baum (Orbea Leatt Pace Firm) with a successful time of three:28:30 after 117km of racing. Three-time Italian mountain bike champion Piana claimed the win within the ladies’s race, with a time of 4:16:18, besting Carlotta Borello (Cingolani-Specialised). Barbara Guarischi (SD Worx) crossed the end line 58 seconds later for third place.

For the second version of the Giro Sardegna Gravel, the beginning and end have been relocated to the small seashore city of Santa Lucia di Siniscola, and featured a brand new opening and shutting loop. After setting off, riders rapidly tackled a 3.5km stretch of dust alongside the seashore, adopted by a 6.7km part of asphalt winding across the protected dunes of Capo Comino, resulting in the lighthouse that marked the start of the 50km circuit. The loop climbed from sea degree to a most elevation of 225 meters, with riders finishing the loop twice.
