US Open expands to 15-day tournament in 2025

The US Open will grow to be a 15-day event in 2025, starting on a weekend for the primary time within the Open period.

This yr’s important draw at Flushing Meadows will begin on Sunday, 24 August and finish on Sunday, 7 September.

It turns into the most recent Grand Slam to announce a Sunday begin. The Australian Open expanded to a 15-day event in 2024, after the French Open took that call in 2006.

That leaves Wimbledon as the one remaining Slam occasion to retain the normal Monday begin.

In making the change, the US Open stated the transfer would permit “extra fan entry than ever to the principle draw following three consecutive years of record-breaking attendance”.

The event estimates the growth will permit entry for a further 70,000 spectators.

Males’s and girls’s singles first-round matches can be performed throughout the opening three days in New York, from Sunday to Tuesday.

The Australian Open took the choice to grow to be a 15-day occasion in an try to cut back the variety of late-night finishes at Melbourne Park.
