Who Beat Marciano & Portrayed Joe Louis?


The title Coley Wallace will not be a widely known title in boxing or within the motion pictures, however…….Born in Jacksonville, Florida, then transferring to Harlem, New York, Wallace, 6-1 on the time, was the final opponent to defeat the long run world unbeaten heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano, 11-3, in March of 1948 within the Japanese Golden Gloves match which he would go onto win.

Wallace would then go on to win the Nationwide AAU match on the Boston Backyard in April 1948, qualifying him for the Olympic trials in the identical facility. He would cease future professional Charley “The Bayonne Bomber” Norkus within the quarter-finals, then cease Artwork Seay, 11-1, after which lose to Norvel Lee within the semi-finals. Lee misplaced within the finals and have become an Olympic alternate. Lee misplaced within the quarter-finals of the London Olympics in 1948.

Lee would defeat future world heavyweight champion Ingemar Johansson and two future Olympic Gold Medalists in Pete Rademacher (1956) and Ed Sanders (1952).

Wallace would go on to win the 1949 New York Golden Gloves after which lose within the Japanese finals. He additionally misplaced to Jimmy Bivins, 86-25-1, who was acknowledged as heavyweight champion whereas Joe “The Brown Bomber” Louis served within the US Military. He misplaced within the amateurs to future world heavyweight champion Ezzard Charles. Within the professional’s, he ended up 22-7 after going 18-1 and 4-6. Within the amateurs, he was 25-3.

1948 New York Every day Information Golden Gloves Open Division heavyweight champion defeating Gilmore Newkirk (later gained the 1950 GG title).

1949 New York Golden Gloves Event of Champions, he was defeated by Bob Baker within the semi-final and defeated Jimmy Hillard within the comfort bout.

He served as a boxing choose for six fights (82 to 89) and a referee for 2 fights (1974). In 2005, he handed away on the age of 77.

Wallace in 1953 would go on to painting Joe “The Brown Bomber” Louis within the 1953 film “The Joe Louis Story!” He was a ½” taller than Louis. So, there you have got it, Wallace, the person who final defeated Rocky Marciano and portrayed Joe “The Brown” Bomber within the motion pictures!
