Acosta wins Argentina Open for 1st ATP title

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Wild-card Facundo Diaz Acosta gained his first ATP singles title on Sunday by beating Chile’s Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4 within the ultimate of the clay-court Argentina Open.

The ATP mentioned that the 23-year-old Argentine turned solely the second left-handed champion — after Rafael Nadal — on the Buenos Aires event.

Díaz Acosta started the week with a career-high rating of 87. He’s set to rise to No. 59 when the rankings are launched Monday.

Third-seeded Jarry was chasing his fourth ATP title.

Díaz Acosta’s victory was simpler than anticipated in opposition to Jarry, who struggled to compete after beating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz within the semifinals.

Alcaraz is now set to compete on the Rio Open in Brazil, additionally on clay, which he gained in 2022.
