Promising Turkish Ski Racer Dies in Ski Resort Lodge Hearth

Berkin Usta, 25 years outdated, represented his nation in lots of worldwide competitions.

He competed within the 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Pageant and took Turkey’s finest rating within the males’s large slalom occasion.

In 2021, he received a silver medal on the FIS Alpine Snowboarding Anatolia Cup and was one among seven athletes representing Turkey on the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

He died alongside his father Yahya, 57, at a fireplace within the Kervansaray Lodge within the Uludağ ski resort.

The Turkey ski workforce has expressed its condolences.

“We have been deeply saddened to study that our nationwide skier Berkin Usta, who represented Türkiye on the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, tragically misplaced his life on the age of 25 within the Uludağ hearth,” it stated in an announcement.

“Could God have mercy on our nationwide athlete and his father, Yahya Usta, a former nationwide skier, who additionally perished in the identical hearth.

“We want a speedy restoration to his mom, Fikriye Usta, who remains to be in hospital after the fireplace,” the assertion concluded.
