Hruthik Katakam appeared set to drive the deciding doubles, after Tavish Pahwa misplaced within the first singles, however Takahiro Kawaguchi overcame a tough begin to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, in sealing a 2-0 victory for Japan.
By the way, Japan had scored a 2-0 victory over India within the league stage earlier.
India had assured itself of a berth within the World Group competitors to be staged later in Europe.
