March Training Log: Races X2, Sickness X2

March was not a straightforward month for me. After I say it was a curler coaster, I imply it. I ran the Napa Valley Half Marathon, obtained the abdomen flu, ran the Los Angeles Marathon, after which obtained the common flu. What a month.

Fast Information:

Ideas:

As talked about, it was a bizarre month. I began off on the Napa Valley Half Marathon. I believed the race went fairly nicely. Not wonderful, however I ran nicely sufficient. The following day, I obtained the abdomen flu—and all of it made sense. That knocked me out for 3–4 days, and with simply 10 days earlier than the marathon, I used to be getting apprehensive. I did a way more drastic taper than I often would have and lower my miles, simply hoping to get better.

That appeared to work, and I ran an LA Marathon PR of three:21. Though it was my quickest Los Angeles Marathon (of three), I didn’t really feel wonderful and had some bizarre points in the course of the race. It seems I had the common flu, which knocked me out for about 5 days. I had the flu shot in 2025, so I do know it was “much less dangerous.” I laid round for about 5 days and took per week utterly off from working (I had all the time deliberate to take 1–2 weeks off post-Los Angeles, so no huge deal). I’ve combined feelings about Los Angeles. On one hand, it was my quickest Los Angeles. However, I do know I used to be coming down with the flu. Fortunately, it was day 1, and I didn’t really feel as dangerous as days 2–5. I suppose! Would I’ve run LA if I knew I used to be coming down with the flu? I don’t know…as a result of I do know it wrecked my immune system extra.

Now, I’m simply getting again into working. I’ve some dangerous recollections concerning the flu and it taking me 8 months to get better in 2022, so truthfully, I’m apprehensive about that. My subsequent race is Mountains 2 Seashore on April 13.

Cross Coaching:

I’m not swimming a lot proper now—possibly as soon as per week if I’m fortunate. I’m actually into Pilates, and I celebrated 250 lessons. I feel it’s helped my working, though it’s powerful to inform. Truthfully, it’s been a great addition to my exercises as a result of I truly do devoted power coaching and core work.

In all, this month was a curler coaster. The outcomes have been respectable, nevertheless it’s simple to look again and say, “What if.” I’m attempting to not…nevertheless it doesn’t imply it’s not onerous.
