Oklahoma attorney general calls for Big 12 to suspend Brendan Sorsby

The NCAA’s Brendan Sorsby state of affairs is reaching far past simply sports activities.

Now politicians are getting concerned in his potential capacity to play soccer for Texas Tech this season.

Simply days after Texas lawyer basic Ken Paxton threatened the Huge 12 for attempting to take motion in opposition to Texas Tech, the Oklahoma lawyer basic has thrown his hat into the ring.

Oklahoma AG calls on Huge 12 to droop Brendan Sorsby

In a letter written to Huge 12 commissioner Brett Yormark on Friday, Gentner Drummond known as on the convention to droop Sorsby, citing an argument that the momentary injunction granted to Sorsby utilized solely to the NCAA.

It doesn’t, in Drummond’s thoughts, cease the Huge 12 from issuing its personal punishment.

From ESPN:

“[Texas Tech’s] actions in acquiring eligibility for Brendan Sorsby — an athlete the NCAA declared completely ineligible for intensive wagering on school sports activities, together with video games involving his personal staff — have constituted a shameful chapter within the story of school soccer,” Drummond wrote. “Texas Tech has acted in a fashion adversarial to the Huge 12 and the integrity of school soccer as a complete.”

Sorsby was dominated ineligible by the NCAA after it was discovered that he positioned on bets on a number of school sports activities, together with video games that his staff had performed in.

In an effort to maintain his eligibility, Sorsby sued the NCAA and was granted a brief injunction final week by a Texas decide. That ruling, mixed with the way in which Texas Tech has gone to bat for Sorsby and fought again in opposition to any criticism, has made this system one of many greatest pariahs in school sports activities.

The entire thing simply appears fully unsustainable.

Permitting a participant who has wager on video games his staff has performed (whether or not he truly performed in them or not) simply cannot be one thing that’s normalized or accredited.

Within the historical past of organized sports activities, it by no means has been.

Opening that pandora’s field could be a crushing blow to sports activities in any respect ranges.

The distractions that participant will deliver are additionally going to be monumental, and we’re already seeing it as lawyer generals throughout the nation begin to battle it out.
