Swiatek beats Keys on first day of WTA Finals

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — In a conflict of Grand Slam winners, Iga Swiatek swept apart Madison Keys in straight units on the opening day of the WTA Finals in Riyadh on Saturday.

The Wimbledon champion wanted simply over an hour to beat Australian Open winner Keys 6-1, 6-2 on the season-ending match for the world’s high eight gamers.

“I used to be within the zone from the start to the top, and I actually wished to maintain it that approach,” mentioned Swiatek, who received 58 of 87 factors.

It was Keys’ first match in 68 days, since her first-round exit on the US Open. Swiatek acknowledged such a protracted absence “could make you a bit rusty.”

Taking part in within the Serena Williams Group, Keys may have to beat Amanda Anisimova and Elena Rybakina to advance.

Rybakina beat Anisimova 6-3. 6-1 Saturday.
