Utah Skier Hospitalized After Sliding 800 Feet @ Little Cottonwood Canyon

A Utah skier has his helmet to thank after surviving an estimated 800 toes foot slide down the south face of Mount Superior.

FOX13 reviews the 30-year-old man set out with two different skiers into Little Cottonwood Canyon on Friday morning. The group had eliminated their skis and had placed on mountaineering boots when the accident occurred. Salt Lake County Search and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the person on a sled earlier than utilizing ropes to decrease him off the mountain and transport him to the hospital.

“He was alert, some lacerations and a few bruises. No damaged bones that we may inform. His helmet did save his life. His helmet was fairly badly broken within the slide and fall.” -Ryan Clerico, Vice Commander of Salt Lake County Search and Rescue

A LifeFlight helicopter hoisted one of many different skiers off the mountain after he felt unsafe making the descent on his personal. The third man skied out on his personal. Vice Commander Clerico needs to this incident to face as a warning that spring snowboarding could be harmful and encourages anybody who ventures out to hold an ice axe to help in self-arrest.
