Becker regrets winning Wimbledon at 17

Having retired in 1999 after which working as a TV pundit, Becker coached Novak Djokovic for 3 years between 2013 and 2016, serving to the Serb win six of his 24 Grand Slam titles.

The 57-year-old, who has written a ebook about his time in jail, says he took consolation from Djokovic’s 2022 success at Wimbledon.

“I used to be supporting Djokovic on the time I noticed him on the TV, when he was profitable matches and in the end profitable the title in opposition to Nick Kyrgios,” he mentioned.

“That was very inspirational for me and ultimately very emotional for me. My brother Novak is there and I am in one of many worst prisons on this planet. So it places life into perspective.”

Becker was deported from the UK following his launch.

“I used to be too snug. I had an excessive amount of cash. No person informed me ‘no’ – every part was potential. In hindsight, that is the recipe for catastrophe,” he mentioned.

“So you’re taking accountability on your actions, which is essential since you can not look again any extra. You can not change the previous. You possibly can solely change the longer term since you reside in in the present day.”
